AVA Xmas meeting 16 December Cardiff

16 Dec 2019 archived

The 24th Christmas meeting of the Applied Vision Association will be held at Cardiff University on Monday, 16th December 2019.

The venue is the Hadyn Ellis Building on Maindy Road (CF24 4HQ), which is next door to the Optometry Building and Lidl. It is only a short walk from the Cathays Rail Station.

Please make a note of this date in your diary. To register for the meeting, see below.

The AVA is the only organisation in the UK devoted to the support and dissemination of vision research. Our current members come from varied backgrounds but have a shared interest in visual perception and its practical applications. Our charter is to promote all areas of vision research from cell biology and neuroscience to clinical trials, through our regular meetings.

We are very pleased to have two outstanding keynote speakers:
Dr Szonya Durant. Senior Lecturer, Department of Psychology, Royal Holloway, University of London
and
Professor Peter Bex. Department of Psychology, Northeastern University, Boston, MA USA

We look forward to welcoming you to Cardiff.

The programme of talks is shown below:

Abstract Submission is still open for posters only!

Abstracts should be submitted by December 13th (deadline extended!)  to: CardiffAVA2019@gmail.com

Abstracts will be peer-reviewed and should cover previously unreported research involving any aspect of vision in humans, animals and machines. All abstracts will published in the online journal i-Perception.  Abstracts must be in the standard format for ECVP/Perception.

References should be given in the body of the abstract in full, but without the title, e.g. (Rayner et al, 2001, Vis Res, 41, 943-954) and the abstract word limit is 250. Unless otherwise stated (at the end of the abstract), it will be assumed that the first author will be the presenting author.

An example abstract in the correct format is here.

Note that no copyright agreement needs to be signed, but it is the author's responsibility to disclose or sort out any conflict of interest or the clearing of any copyright issues that might arise.

The organizers will try to accommodate preferences for a talk or poster but this might not always be possible.

Poster Boards

We have 20 double-sided boards whose dimensions are 1200mm x 1200mm and others that are 840mm x 1200mm.  The first type will fit an A0 poster (in portrait or landscape orientation) but the second kind will only fit landscape. We should be able to accommodate whichever you bring, but if in doubt, please contact the organiser, Jon Erichsen at CardiffAVA2019@gmail.com

Registration is by paypal. You do not need a paypal account to use this – simply choose the option to pay by card on the next screen.

You should receive a receipt from paypal (worth checking your spam folder) but if you do not please email treasurer@theava.net. If you need a further receipt, please contact the meeting organiser.

We have had to increase our fees for meetings and memberships. At the same time we have introduced a discount for unfunded and self funded individuals (see options). All money from the meetings and donations goes back into running the Association and funding our awards. This is the first increase in a long time and is to ensure that we can continue to fund our awards. If you are unable to afford our meetings but still wish to come, please email treasurer@theava.net.
